Google Tools Training with NM DELT

Google Tools Training by NM DELT!

NM DELT and Catholic Charities teamed up for a Google ToolsTraining on May 24th, 2019.
Senior Training Consultants Cash Clifton and Jamie Trujillo worked with 9 attendees
to familiarize participants with Google Tools and to explore how they can be
used in the classroom.

Are you or your program interested in having a similar training to boost your technology integration and help your students accelerate their learning? NM DELT can support your program- just contact us and let us know your needs.

For an idea of what to expect in this type of session, the recent training began with a brief
introduction to Google Tools. They then worked to create a Google Classroom together
for the activities where participants worked on the introductory Google
Tools Scavenger Hunt!
We all have different levels of competence when it comes to technology, and
NM DELT can differentiate trainings for your instructors and staff. In this meeting,
some of the participants completed the activity and began the intermediate
Google Tools training, while others kept learning and exploring the tools to strengthen
their comfort level. We always like to end with a poll of top take aways to better serve your
needs in the future, and this training was no different, also having the
benefit of showing participants the value of using polleverywhere!

It Takes Grit! NM DELT's Cash Clifton presents nationally with NROC!

Taking Training National!

NM DELT's Senior Training Consultant Cash Clifton presented "It Takes Grit! Preparing Students for College-level Academics and More" for the NROC Network this month. He and colleague Therese Baca-Radler from UNM co-presented on how to integrate Social Emotional Learning with the NROC products to support student success in development studies and beyond. They shared their approach, pairing EdReady with concepts of Grit and Mindset Intervention strategies, as used in a collaborative setting for both mathematics and language arts. Their innovative model uses Adult Education theories of brain research, emphasizing growth mindset and self-efficacy. Teaching students about success and perseverance and fostering a healthy definition of failure is among many of the benefits of their design.

If you missed this webinar, you can view it on demand at https://nrocnetwork.org/resources/events/2019/05/it-takes-grit-preparing-for-college-level-academics-and-more/ by clicking on the image above. Take some time to see how their ideas might be useful to your program for either on-boarding or in content areas, as they have shared.

Great work, Cash. We thank you for sharing your expertise with the nation and, of course, with the AE programs of our state!

COABE was a SUCCESS!

NM DELT Attended the COABE Conference in New Orleans this past week and represented our state in style! With so much to learn and teach, we were very busy and networking with Adult Educators from around our nation. New Orleans was kind to us all with its amazing food, music and scenery, allowing for some after session ghost tours, ferry rides, trolley rides, and general good cheer!

NM DELT Senior Training Consultant Kristen Waring presented on Monday at 1:30 pm and Tina Hite and Jane Faith Schauermann were privileged to assist her in the session entitled,
"Multilevel Technology-Based Learning with Google Tools and Google Classroom"
Her session description read, "Whether you are new to Google or an experienced user, this will be an opportunity to try something new and fun while experiencing an interactive model for multilevel, technology-based learning. Join us as we actively explore Google Tools and Google Classroom! The presenters will discuss how the NMDELT Team has adapted these activities for use in face-to-face, blended learning, and distance learning settings. There will also be discussion and modeling of how Google Tools can support differentiated learning.

Senior Training Consultants Montserrat Oyanedel-Tolmo and Jamie Trujillo, assisted by Kristen Waring and Tina Hite, presented on Tuesday at 8 am in their session entitled, "Webinars that Work: Using Teams to Create Effective, Meaningful, Online Professional Development".
Their session description read, "Are you looking for ways to provide or receive effective professional development in your state without a significant strain on your budget? Is it difficult for instructors in your state to receive regular training? Is technology a 'taboo term' for you? If so, this interactive session will help provide a solution. The New Mexico Distance Education & Technologies (NMDELT) Team offers two webinars per month free to anyone who is employed by a state-funded adult education program. In this session, NMDELT presenters will explain how webinars are set up, created, rehearsed, and delivered using a team system (one moderator and at least one presenter) so that webinars are engaging, entertaining, and informative with minimal technical difficulties. Participants will work together to practice filling the role of both moderator and presenter, and presenters will share ideas on how to solve common issues. Finally, presenters will share data and lessons learned.

Many sessions were attended with a great deal to process and share. One session attended by Jane Faith Schauermann and Montserrat Oyanedel-Tolmo, called "Break Out!" was memorable! We explored using break out boxes for review and formative assessments. Talk about an escape room in a box! So clever, engaging and effective for student learning. And our team did it!

We hope that those who attended COABE this year have similar successes and fabulous resources to bring back to your program as well. As always, feel free to contact us for any support or questions you might have! Here's to bringing all that great knowledge back into our programs!
